When is a breach not a breach?

TOPIC:  THE CONCEPT OF ADVANTAGE & DISADVANTAGE

Objective of the game: 

INFLUENCING PLAY:  OBTAINING SPACE & TIME FOR YOUR TEAM 

WHILST DENYING SPACE & TIME FOR THE OPPOSITION”

What does this mean?  Why do you want space & time for your team?

 

ADVANTAGE Rule 12.1 

A Penalty is awarded ONLY when a player or team has been DISADVANTAGED by an opponent breaking the rules

  • How can a player be disadvantaged?
  • How might a team be disadvantaged?
  • What does the umpire do if there is a breach but no disadvantage to opposing team or player? 
  • Give some examples of how players try to use the rules to get some Advantage
  • How do you tell the difference between “deliberate” & “unintentional” fouls?
  • Give examples of what players might do deliberately but pretend it was unintentional (accidental)
  • What does “play the Advantage” mean?
  • How does the umpire signal “Play on?”
  • What do you do if you tried to allow “advantage” but the team didn’t really get advantage through playing on? 
  • How long do you wait before calling the play back?
  • What do you do if you play “advantage” but the player mucks it up & loses the ball?
